The building of God’s Kingdom is always beset by problems, both from within and from without. The first step in handling those problems is recognizing the root of the problems.

The Jews who returned from exile knew and understood God’s Law concerning money, but they were not living by it. The work on the wall came to a stop so that Nehemiah could deal with the problems this caused the fellowship of the people of God. Whatever project we undertake for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom, we do so as the fellowship of God’s people, and there are aspects of that fellowship we need to understand.
