The building of God’s Kingdom is always beset by problems, both from within and from without. The first step in handling those problems is recognizing the root of the problems.

Nehemiah 5:1-19
The Jews who returned from exile knew and understood God’s Law concerning money, but they were not living by it. The work on the wall came to a stop so that Nehemiah could deal with the problems this caused the fellowship of the people of God. Whatever project we undertake for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom, we do so as the fellowship of God’s people, and there are aspects of that fellowship we need to understand.

Nehemiah 5
With the wall halfway up, Nehemiah and the people encountered the external problems of ridicule, attack, and discouragement, all of which they handled. But when confronted by a problem from within, a problem having to do with money…we need first to understand the Biblical background.

Nehemiah 4:1-6
Those God calls and uses to build His Kingdom, who catch His vision and work for Him, meet opposition, and that opposition, at least in 21st century America, is often ridicule. Following the steps Nehemiah and the people under him took in responding to that ridicule is God’s way.

Nehemiah 3
God’s man, gifted by God for a specific task, moved by God to pray for that task, always at work for God and His glory, whatever work he is doing, beginning the new task in God’s way and God’s time, work’s with Kingdom builders. Nehemiah, the one God specifically called to lead His people in His work came to town and began the work, but not in the way one would expect. The stages of the beginning suggest something about the way God works in His using us in His projects.

Nehemiah 1:5-11
The one God uses is the one God has prepared to be used of Him and who accepts His call, recognizing that call at least in part in his circumstances and opportunities. But the one God uses is also the one who prays, and who does so properly, with the elements seen in Nehemiah’s prayer.
