Numbers 4-5; Mark 4

In this chapter of Mark we read that Jesus taught many things in parables for the reason that he wanted believers to understand and unbelievers not to understand. I think that this was probably an act of mercy toward those who are unbelievers as they will receive a more severe judgment as they reject the truths taught.

Leviticus 16; Matthew 26:57-75

This chapter of Leviticus covers the Day of Atonement which was to cover the many sins and defilements that the required sacrifices missed. This special inclusive sacrifice was designed to cover all of these (The MacArthur Study Bible, pg. 176, footnote 16:1-34). The notes in the MacArthur Study Bible go on to say that only those who were genuine in repentance and faith received its benefit, the forgiveness of sin. What an encouragement that is today as we repent and trust Jesus to forgive us.

Leviticus 13-15; Matthew 26:20-56

As we read this section of Leviticus and Matthew we can see that God desires holiness in us. The Levitical laws showed Israel how they were to handle human impurities to be “clean” or acceptable to God Matthew records for us what Jesus has done for us as he fulfills God’s plan for us by going to the cross to die for our sins. What a God we serve!

Genesis 46-Exodus 1

In Genesis 50:19-21 we see the love that God has for us and His sovereignty over the affairs of men as Joseph tells us that what his brothers meant for evil God ordained for good. Also in the Matthew readings we see Jesus healing and feeding in miraculous ways. We have no need to fear as we serve a wonderful mighty God.

Matthew 11

Matthew 11:28-30 is always an encouraging passage to me as I struggle with depression but here I see Jesus’ invitation to place my trust in Him and His finished work on the Cross and not focus on all of my sin. Hallelujah! What a Savior.
