1 King 10-14; Luke 24:1-35

The queen of Sheba came to visit Solomon in 1 Kings 10. She was overwhelmed by the way God had so richly blessed Solomon. “Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard.” She praised God for His great blessings on Solomon. Earlier Solomon could have chosen wealth but instead he asked for wisdom (1 Kings 3) to be a wise ruler. God honored that request and blessed Solomon with wealth as well.

Judges 20 - Ruth 4; Luke 11:1 - 12:3

In Ruth 2:16 Ruth commits herself to the Lord and Naomi, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God”. This passage reminds us of our need to forsake all to follow the Lord. Ruth gave up the familiar for the unfamiliar, what was safe for what was risky, in order to have a relationship with the Lord.

Judges 20 - Ruth 4; Luke 11:1 - 12:3

Luke 11 contains the Lord’s prayer, “Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.” This partition follows the parable in Matthew 18:22-35, where the servant, who was forgiven much, refused to forgive alittle. The result, the servant had to pay for his offenses. We are called to forgive others who offend us, because God has completely forgiven us of all of our many sins.

Judges 18-19; Luke 10:25-42

In Luke 10: 38-42 we are reminded how easy we can become distracted by our activity. There are many worries and distractions in life. Jesus reminds Martha that what is most important is a relationship with Him. All the rest of the worries and distractions in life will fall into place once we take the time to grow in our relationship with Christ. Easy to say, hard to do.

Judges 15-17; Luke 10: 1-24

In verse 22 of Luke 10 we are told “no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” We are reminded that we cannot on our own find God. God finds us. His Holy Spirit works in our heart to convince us of our sin and our need for salvation that is made possible through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. He draws us to Himself. A gracious, undeserved gift.
