Deacons
God continues to use the New Hope deacons in the ministry of mercy to his people.
The deacons meet on the first Thursday of the month. The agenda is focused on the review of any planned support and possible needs of people New Hope has helped in the recent past and with whom the deacons are maintaining contact. The deacons also receive reports of needs the Lord brought to their attention through phone calls or from members of the congregation. One of the great challenges is working through the stewardship of the resources provided by a faithful congregation. The blessing is not only being able to minister to the physical needs of individuals and families, but also being a part of a congregation who go beyond the deacon’s help with continuing personal and spiritual support.
A majority of the giving to the Deacon’s fund goes to the support of individuals and families. It is split between members, non-members and regular attendees. Spending increased for the purchase of grocery store certificates and gasoline gift cards. The food pantry is still a significant part of the deacon’s ministry. These programs provide an ability to meet basic needs quickly through the giving of His people
at New Hope. The deacon’s prayer is that through God’s Grace the economy will improve. With an improved economy the need for assistance should decrease.
The Deacons also continue to support Freedom House, the OPC Diaconal Committee and the Presbytery of the Midwest.
